Chiropractors

Some headaches result from problems in the neck, shoulders or back, resulting in muscle tension normally affecting the back of the neck and head.

It is also thought that in some cases a misalignment in the neck joints can also affect blood flow or nerve impulses to the brain that may cause headaches too.

Unexplained or prolonged soreness or stiffness in the neck may indicate a problem that a chiropractor or osteopath could diagnose and treat by manipulation to restore a natural balance.

The differences between chiropractors and osteopaths vary between countries and how they are regulated, so it is worth making enquiries to the regulatory bodies concerned for what to expect where you live. Both work by manipulating the joints of the body restoring the natural balance and functioning of it after it has been adversely affected by illness or injury.

Often it is a matter of personal choice whether to choose a chiropractor or osteopath, recommendation often decides the matter, but don’t be afraid to ring up and ask about your problem, what to expect in the way of treatment, its duration (difficult to know until after the first session) and costs involved.

Whiplash injuries to the neck, usually as a result of a motor accident, when the head is jerked backwards suddenly can cause headaches long after the accident, many years in some cases when not treated.

Both chiropractors and osteopaths can help with such problems affecting muscle and joints, often as the result of some accident or putting unusual stresses or strains on the body, which could be physical or mental.
