Headaches can be caused by a serious life threatening illness so it is important to rule out such conditions by seeking the advice of a health professional, before attempting any self-help course of treatment.

Although it is rare for headaches to be caused by serious illness, because it is a possibility, it is very common for people to seek the medical advice to rule out this possibility for peace of mind. What are Headaches?

Headaches are symptoms and are not a disease; the symptoms can range from mild pain in tension headaches, that is merely an annoyance, to pain of such intensity that you can barely be aware of anything else, as with cluster headaches or migraine headaches.

The pain may range from a localised area of the head to feeling it is everywhere in the head and can extend down particularly into the back of the neck.

Such severe pain can bring normal everyday activity to a complete halt for hours or even days for a few individuals.Even so this does not indicate a serious or life threatening condition, yet because of the devastating effect on daily life, that fact can sometimes be of little comfort .
